International Academic Seminar “New Frontiers in EU Health Law” under the Auspices of Oxford University Press
On 29 May 2026, the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk will host an international academic seminar entitled “New Frontiers in EU Health Law”.
The event is organised by Assoc. Prof. Tomasz Tadeusz Koncewicz and Dr Marcin Michalak, from the Department of European Law and Comparative Legal Studies. It is held as part of the work of an international group of scholars preparing chapters for the Oxford Encyclopedia of EU Law in the field of EU Health Law, led by Professor Tamara Hervey of City St George’s, University of London.
The Oxford Encyclopedia of EU Law is Oxford University Press’s flagship publication in the field of European Union law. Tomasz Tadeusz Koncewicz, Associate Professor at the University of Gdańsk and Head of the Department of European Law and Comparative Legal Studies, serves as a member of the Encyclopedia’s Editorial Board. Members of our Faculty are also among its authors.
The academic seminar will be devoted to current trends in the development of European Union law in the field of health protection, as well as to new regulatory, institutional and social challenges connected with the operation of health law within the European legal space. The meeting will provide an opportunity to exchange experience among scholars working on European Union law, health law, and the relationship between law, public policy and institutional practice.
The seminar in Gdańsk forms part of a series of meetings of this group, held in recent years at European academic centres including London, Maynooth, Aix-en-Provence and Santander. The event will bring together leading scholars from foreign academic institutions specialising in European Union law and health law.
The organisation of the seminar is supported by the authorities of the University of Gdańsk, the Faculty of Law and Administration, and the Regional Chamber of Legal Advisers.
The event has received support from Assoc. Prof. Wojciech Zalewski - Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration, Professor Wiesław Laskowski, Vice-Rector for Research of the University of Gdańsk and Dr Bartosz Szolc-Nartowski, Dean of the Regional Chamber of Legal Advisers in Gdańsk.
The event represents an important opportunity to strengthen international academic cooperation, develop publication-related contacts, and enhance the visibility of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk among European scholars of European Union law and health law.
